Colorado’s gambling establishments are making plans to eventually resume operations for patrons.

At least a few of them, albeit to a limited extent.

PlayinСolorado received the news on Sunday that the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has approved Gilpin County’s variance request. This means that the county is now exempt from the safer-at-home guidelines and state-wide coverage.

The gaming communities of Black Hawk and Central City have officially reopened their casinos to the general public.

At present, customers are able to indulge in slot machines. However, board games are currently unavailable, but they will be considered again in a period of three weeks.

As a consequence of the COVID-19 crisis, Governor Jared Polis issued an order for them to close on March 17th.

The level of anxiety and frustration experienced by Colorado casinos cannot be adequately expressed.

Nevertheless, their requested swift solution will be provided next week.

According to information shared with PlayinColorado, Monarch Casino and Resort has a scheduled reopening at 8 a.m. MST on June 17.

In a recent press release, David Farahi, Chief Operating Officer of Monarch Casino and Resort, expressed his anticipation for safely reopening their doors after months of missing the collaboration with team members and the opportunity to serve their valued customers.

The resumption of other games in Gilpin County at the same time is uncertain.

Black Hawk, with regulations, Central City reopens

You can find the confirmation letter on the CDPHE website.

The letter, dated June 6, contains the following statement regarding gambling.

After careful consideration, you eventually proposed the idea of opening casinos. However, after conducting further research, you agreed to modify your proposal to only allow access to the slot machines within the casino. With the enhancements made to your software, the current permission granted is solely for the operation of slot machines.

  • Closing the slot machines in this manner does not allow for any intentional manipulation to enhance the house’s advantage in terms of payments.
  • Each day, all modes of transportation that ferry passengers to casinos must undergo a comprehensive cleaning, disinfection, and cleansing between each trip.

According to ”, game tables are not currently approved, but they will be in three months.

Customers must maintain a social distance of six feet, and 50% of the maximum occupancy limit should be adhered to for gambling. In indoor spaces with limited room, the presence of customers must not exceed 175 individuals, while outdoor settings can accommodate up to 250 people.

Furthermore, it is necessary for games to display signs on their entrances cautioning individuals with symptoms resembling COVID-19 to refrain from entering.

Due to the presence of Cripple Creek, a gaming community, the current status of Teller County’s variance request remains uncertain.

The CDPHE site has been recently updated with regards to a letter dated May 22, which states that the county’s casinos have not been authorized to reopen.

Please continue to monitor this account as it is still undergoing development, and expect updates in the future.
